Elvira Sánchez-Blake is a Colombian journalist, academic, and writer with a Ph.D. in Latin American literature from Cornell University. She is a retired professor from Michigan State University and Cornell University.
Elvira is the author of Suma Paz; La utopía de Mario Calderón y Elsa Alvarado (2021), winner of the gold medal at the International Latino Books Awards. She is one of the authors included in La patria que nos duele (2022), a collection of poetic and narrative works by Colombian writers living abroad. Elvira is also the author of the novel Espiral de silencios (Spiral of Silence) Elvira’s academic publications include Patria se escribe con sangre (2000) and Latin American Women and the Literature of Madness (2015).
Elvira has been the director of the Revista de Estudios Colombianos and editor of the Latin American Literary Review journal. During her career she has authored an array of publications in academic and literary journals. Currently, she is the director of Education at CreArte Latino Cultural Center in Sarasota, Florida.
